Sejarah Gunung Merapi

 Gunung Merapi (ketinggian pucuk 2.930 mdpl, per 2010) (Hanacaraka:ꦒꦸꦤꦸꦁ​ꦩꦼꦫꦥꦶ) ialah gunung berapi pada bagian tengah Pulau Jawa dan adalah salah satunya gunung api teraktif di Indonesia. Lereng segi selatan ada dalam administrasi Kabupaten Sleman, Wilayah Spesial Yogyakarta, dan bekasnya ada dalam daerah Propinsi Jawa tengah, yakni Kabupaten Magelang disamping barat, Kabupaten Boyolali disamping utara dan timur, dan Kabupaten Klaten disamping tenggara. Teritori rimba di seputar pucuknya jadi teritori Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi semenjak tahun 2004. Gunung ini berpotensi kebencanaan yang tinggi karena berdasarkan catatan kekinian alami erupsi tiap dua sampai lima tahun sekali dan dikitari oleh pemukiman yang padat. Semenjak tahun 1548, gunung ini telah meletus sekitar 68 kali. Kota Magelang dan Kota Yogyakarta ialah kota besar paling dekat, memiliki jarak kurang dari 30 km dari pucuknya.
